ABOUT
Sheila R. Piner, MS, LPCC
Sheila was born in Colorado and lived in multiple states before settling in Ohio in 1977, where she attended Spring Valley Academy (graduated 1985), Kettering College of Medical Arts where she completed AS: Biomedical Electronics (graduated 1990). For the next ten years, Sheila worked in the Biomedical Electronics Department (BMET) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. This time was followed by thirteen years as a Field Service Representative for a Datascope/Mindray North America. In April 2013, she left her career due to ongoing physical health issues. Sheila decided to pursue another degree in 2004, and attended Antioch McGregor, completing a BA: Humanities (2006). At the close of her field service career in 2013, she began the process of reinvention by attending Walden University. She completed an MS: Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a certification in Crisis and Trauma (May 2017). She obtained the State of Ohio Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and her National Certified Counselor (NCC) designation (June 2017). Sheila became a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in January 2020. Sheila ascribes to an Existential/Humanistic theoretical approach to counseling. She is interested in working with people with chronic pain problems, chronic health issues, members of the LGBTQIIA+ community, PTSD, trauma, dissociative identity disorder (DID), and suicide prevention. COUNSELING
Whatever your reason for seeking counseling, I am dedicated to helping you find your way to better mental health. Your issues of concern may be depression, anxiety, mood disorders, whatever the problem, counseling can be effective as an adjunctive to medication management. Individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illnesses (SPMI) such as bipolar disorders, schizoaffective disorder, and schizophrenia can all benefit from having an unbiased third party to talk to. CHRONIC PAIN
It is important to understand how chronic medical conditions affect one's mental health. It is helpful to have a counselor who understands that your physical health impacts your mental health and good mental health is imperative for successful growth and recovery from physical ailments. Chronic health conditions such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Lupus, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), etc are all medical conditions for which one could benefit from counseling.


TRAUMA
You’ll never know your full potential until you give yourself a chance. Trauma Therapy is only one way in which we can work together so you can have the peaceful and content life you’ve always dreamed about. Areas of focus in Trauma therapy are PTSD and Dissociative Disorders.
WOMEN'S ISSUES
The issues faced by women today are much more complex and stressful and it is important for women to have someone willing and able to focus on these issues, assist with finding the root cause, and a follow up solution.
